ADULT LEARNING PHILOSOPHY
I believe that the purpose of adult learning is to facilitate personal and professional growth through critical thinking, collaboration, and reflection. During this growth process and cognitive activity, adult learners will change perspectives and shift paradigms. As an Instructional Designer, I provide learners with opportunities to scrutinize and question their current ways of thinking and acting and recognize that this process often spurs emotion. Therefore I seek to provide a supportive atmosphere in which learners can maintain dignity and feel personal worth. I also take care to practice objectivity when I present subject matter and attend to learners. The learning experiences that I create should be motivating, challenging, and engaging. These experiences should motivate learners to change their behavior, to become empowered as learners, and to want to learn more.
